An update from the LEAD Brevard Board of Directors

The recent events in our communities and the impacts of the protests and civil unrest these last days and weeks are an unmistakable and painful reminder of the structural racism that continues to exist throughout our nation.
Many in our community are hurting. Racial injustice combined with a global pandemic, pose one of the most significant leadership challenges our community has faced. At the same time, opportunities now exist to bring multiple voices to the table to ensure that our communities are all inclusive and safe for everyone to live, work and play.
LEAD Brevard is committed to developing and inspiring leaders to serve as catalysts for justice and change in this time that needs each of us to be bold while we strive to implement creative solutions to deal with the issues at hand.

In 2019, LEAD Brevard began talking about the need for strong and engaged leaders to bring about change. As a result of those discussions, the Board of Directors of LEAD Brevard established an Equity, Inclusion and Diversity committee, and the conversations are beginning. We acknowledge that this is permanent ongoing work, not a temporary project with a start and end date.

We are committed to:
• Providing a safe space for dialogue and listening
• Engaging the community in tough, but necessary, conversations
• Acknowledging the pain, fear and disillusionment that exists in our community
• Acting with respect and civility in order to have a meaningful impact in our community’s growth toward racial equity and for a world that is equitable, just and kind

We prioritize community, diversity and inclusivity.
We stand against racism, hate and injustice.
We hear you. We stand with you.

“The time is always right to do what is right.” – Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
