 A Letter From Our Chairman

As Young Professionals of Brevard heads into its 5th year of inspiring and empowering professional, social and civic engagement, I would like to take the opportunity on behalf of the ypB Oversight Committee to thank our members for a very successful '08-'09 fiscal year. In a tough economic year where Brevard County watched the unemployment rate climb to double digits, ypB members continued to solidify their impact within the community.

♦ Disaster Recovery Center Course

Are you interested in working at a Disaster Recovery Center? The Red Cross is offering a training course to so you'll be well prepared to help when disaster strikes.

When: July 9, 2009 6:00 to 8:00 pm

Where: The American Red Cross Office
Training Room
1700 Cedar Street
Rockledge, FL 32955

Who: Volunteers interested in working at a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) and staff at agencies - to learn DRC operations and services offered by other agencies.

Sponsored by: United Way of Brevard and Brevard Long Term Recovery Coalition

This course/exercise is designed to convey the information needed to operate an efficient Disaster Recovery Center (DRC). We will cover FEMA guidelines and the basic set-up of a DRC. A volunteer can support many positions at the DRC and it is very helpful for the volunteers to receive training prior to an event as there is very little time to train someone during the actual operation of the DRC.

We will present an overview of services offered by Brevard County agencies offering disaster assistance to facilitate referrals by volunteers to the correct agencies. We will also present an overview of services offered by governmental agencies participating in the DRC process, such as FEMA, SBA and more.

If you wish to attend this class please email llee@uwbrevard.org. If you would like additional information please email or call Keith Heinly at 631-2740.
