Here are the answers to some Frequently Asked Questions...

ypB's Mission: To inspire and empower career-minded individuals to engage in civic, social and professional development.

What is ypB?
• ypB is a program of LEAD Brevard, which began in 2004 to address our county’s need to better attract and retain the YP demographic. It was the first of its kind and is the largest YP program on the Space Coast.

• The program is comprised of over 200 young adults between the ages of 21 and 40 from throughout Brevard, representing a wide variety of both the public and private business sectors.

What does ypB do?
• ypB provides opportunities for YPs to engage in peer-to-peer social networking, community service, cultural enrichment and professional development opportunities.

• We host monthly social networking events at venues throughout Brevard that regularly attract over 100 YPs.

• We participate in several community service projects throughout the year with a variety of nonprofit organizations and have recently partnered with Hubbs Sea World Research Institute to support them in building a new research campus in southern Brevard County and help them promote their work on behalf of ocean and waterways conservation.

• We work with our cultural and arts community to develop events and programs that call attention to Brevard’s many cultural venues, art galleries, theatres and places of interest with the intent of encouraging YPs to find places within the county for their entertainment.

• We provide educational seminars, forums and programs that help YPs develop their leadership and career skills and gain a better understanding of what it takes to reach their goals.

• We also work with the other YP programs in Brevard to offer events and programs that give you even more opportunities to meet people and get involved in the community.

Why does ypB exist?
• Brevard County, like many regions and cities throughout the U.S. is competing to attract young, talented individuals. As more baby-boomers begin to retire and there are less people of the next generation to take their place in the workforce, the need to attract the YP demographic is more important than ever to our economic and social landscape.

• We found through some pretty thorough research with a company called Next Generation Consulting that Brevard needed a program that could not only create the atmosphere that was attractive to YPs, but also help employers, organizations and governments understand the value that having a welcoming community, with plenty to do and a great quality of life has to those looking for jobs and deciding where they want to live.

• YPs pick a place to live first, and then decide on where they want to work.

Isn’t this just a Singles Club for young adults to hook up?
• Not in the least. While ypB does have a lot of members who are single, by virtue of the demographic we serve, the program is meant to help YPs connect on social and professional levels. Being a county that’s 72 miles long with no clear metropolitan center it’s often difficult for YPs to meet like-minded friends by just going out to bars, nightclubs or other places. We provide the venues and opportunities for our members to meet and get to know each other.

• We also have several husband and wife couples who are members. If you’re young and looking to meet people your age that are career-minded and enjoy getting out in their community, then ypB is for you!

 Who’s in ypB?
• We have people from all walks and professions in our membership. They include those in their first career job and those who have established their careers. We have teachers, public safety personnel, lawyers, and professors. Members are people working in finance, real estate, insurance and professional services, retail, the high tech industries, NASA and Kennedy Space Center, our local governments and nonprofit organizations.
