Barnes & Noble Melbourne Upcoming Event
1955 W. New Haven Ave.,West Melbourne, FL 32904
Saturday, July 19th
Join Barnes and Noble for an afternoon of laughter and insights with John P. Strelecky, international best-selling author of The Why Café, and his new book, The Big Five for Life - Leadership's Greatest Secret.
John was honored in 2007 alongside Oprah Winfrey, Wayne Dyer, and Deepak Chopra as one of the 100 Most Influential Thought Leaders in the field of leadership and personal development. His works have been translated into 17 languages and been best sellers around the world.
Even better, he's an interesting guy with a fascinating perspective about living life to the fullest and inspiring those around you to do the same.
If you are an adventurous spirit, a passionate leader, a student of life, or some combination of those three, this is an event you want to attend. You will walk away inspired by life-changing insights (and a great book!).
John will be signing books at the Melbourne Barnes & Noble from 4:00-5:00 p.m. and then doing a reading and taking questions from the audience from 5:00-6:00 p.m. on July 19th.
About The Big Five for Life: No matter who you are or how many people you've led, this book will forever enhance the way you think about leadership- not only the way you lead at work, at home, or in your community, but even the way you lead yourself. It is the story of Thomas Derale, a man viewed by those around him as the greatest leader in the world. He died tragically at fifty-five years of age, and even in that- the act of dying- he inspired everyone around him. This is a story about whom he was, how he led, and the way he left this world.

Community Leaders for Literacy: A Corporate Spelling Bee
Florida Tech Campus in Melbourne - Gleason Auditorium
Wednesday, August 20, 5:00 PM - 8:30 PM
Dust off your dictionaries and put on your thinking caps!
It's time again to participate in the Space Coast Chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association's annual fundraiser to support literacy in Brevard County. Please consider sponsoring a team.
For the second year, FPRA has chosen Rolling Readers Space Coast, Inc. to be the recipient of proceeds from the Spelling Bee. Rolling Readers is a 501c3, non-profit volunteer literacy organization, founded in 1997 to serve economically disadvantaged children in Brevard County. They are a grassroots organization that has created a partnership with Brevard County Title I schools and community businesses and organizations that support their efforts to make a positive impact on local children. Please refer to their website at www.rollingreadersspacecoast.com for further information about their program objectives.
Their Corporate Spelling Bee is intended to create an awareness of the corporate and human cost of illiteracy. If we are to have an informed and educated workforce to meet our future needs then they must learn to read at an early age. Illiteracy can reflect or cause other social problems in our society:
Low literacy is strongly related to poverty - 46% of those with the lowest skills live in poverty.
Low literacy is strongly related to crime - 70% of prisoners fall into the lowest two levels of reading proficiency.
As many as 1 in 5 children will manifest a significant reading disability.
In Brevard County 22% of third grade students scored below grade level in Reading on the 2006-2007 FCAT.
Now, more than ever, in these challenging economic times, the FPRA needs your help to develop literacy skills and inspire a lifelong lover of reading in Brevard County children.
The FPRA hopes your organization chooses to participate in this fun and challenging event by putting together a team to take part in a friendly spelling bee competition with other organizations and companies for Brevard County. Click here for a registation form that outlines the cost per team structured on the size of your local employee base or non-profit group.
If you would like further information on the Spelling Bee, please feel free to call Ann Colchin of the FPRA at (321) 452-9242.

Greyhound Pets of America
Due to Melbourne Greyhound Park's Season Closing, Greyhound Pets of America is looking for donations of items on their wish list and volunteers to assist with feeding and kennel work.
200 Greyhounds will need a lot of food, wormers, health care and kennel supplies before they are all moved into homes. Please consider helping us with a donation or send us your Purina "weight circles" on dog food products as we can use them to offset food costs.
