2007 Report to the Community

The 2007 Report to the Community summarizes the judgment of community leaders representing the broad spectrum of community interests, from the public, private and non-profit sectors.

Forming as the Brevard Tomorrow Task Force in late 2006, these representatives determined that the Brevard Tomorrow process is alive, active, and functioning well. The group’s consensus judgment on the status of each of the original Actions proposed in 2002 is found in this report.

Important to note...
• Over 95% are in some stage of active execution by our community.

• 40% show major accomplishment (with four implemented completely).

• The Task Force added six Actions emerging since 2002.

• Four Actions were dropped, having proved not feasible for action in the foreseeable future.

2007 Brevard Tomorrow Community Agenda

The 2007 Brevard Tomorrow Community Agenda addresses the five Issue Areas established in the original Brevard Tomorrow document: Governance, Civic Infrastructure, Land Use & Growth, Economy, and Education & Workforce.

Within these prime issues are embedded 14 Goals, to be met through community deliberation and activity on a total of 72 Actions. This Action list was updated in late 2006 by the Brevard Tomorrow Task Force.

What’s Next?...
Over the months ahead, our Brevard community will have this refreshed list of Actions before it, with encouragement to
continue the progress already underway and to take up new activities to meet the Goals and address the Issues found within the framework of Brevard Tomorrow.

We all share responsibility in this journey to our community's preferred future. We’re making good progress, but the task is ongoing and the job never-ending. Take part. Find a role. Use your voice. Stand for what you believe in and care about.
You will determine how this all turns out. Brevard Tomorrow sets the stage for the most important areas seeking your consideration and effort. You do the hard work that our future depends on. Let’s keep going!

Getting to Smart Growth in Brevard

Getting to Smart Growth in Brevard County is a detailed document of seven Smart Growth principles, developed by the Land Use & Growth project team.  Based on the feedback of hundreds of residents, as well as concerned and interested groups and organizations, consensus was reached on those principles that could apply to Brevard County when considering the development or redevelopment of neighborhoods and communities.

 Penn Design Central Florida

Under the guidance of renowned planner Jonathan Barnett, graduate students from the University of Pennsylvania spent a year analyzing the growth projections for Central Florida that include the addition of four million people by 2050. They created a trend model that reflects what the region could look like in 2050 if current trends continue. They then met with people throughout the region and crafted an alternative scenario that provides a roadmap of what the future can look like if different practices are followed.

Young Professionals In Brevard

Attracting and retaining young professionals in Brevard is critical to our economic prosperity and dramatically adds to the creative base of talent in our community.  Brevard Tomorrow, in cooperation with Brevard Workforce Development Board and Next Generation Consulting conducted both on-line surveys and focus groups of over 1,000 young professionals to determine what this demographic viewed as the positive aspects and the challenges of life for a young professional in Brevard.  This report outlines those findings.
